Illustration of a Ling

Ling are usually caught around floating debris, stand pipes, wrecks and even buoys. Ling can be very hook shy. A perky live bait ready to pitch to a ling will greatly improve your chances of a hook up. One of Rik’s tricks to catch a picky ling is to drill a hole in a alka seltzer to put on the hook of your lure or bait hook. The bubbles excite the ling and they will typically strike at it. Ling are very curious fish and can show up at your boat at any time. Be sure to have a pitch rod rigged and ready so it’s ready to go when they swim up to you boat.
